Sitio de Calahonda,
abbreviated locally to Calahonda, is a relatively peaceful and quiet
community located on the Costa del Sol, Southern Spain. It is within
easy reach of many of the attractions and popular tourist destinations
of Southern Spain such as Marbella, Puerto Banus, Rhonda, Mijas Pueblo,
Malaga and Gibraltar. It is only approximately 30 minutes drive from
Malaga International Airport (also known as Pablo Picasso Airport) so it
is prime location makes it an ideal holiday location.
Calahonda is a reasonably large community and it
spreads over some distance. It goes from beachside to high up in the
hills, therefore your choice of location accommodation is important,

access to the beach and main shopping area's rent our holiday home, make
sure you do not rent a property in the hills!
Calahonda is a peaceful and trouble free area. The
vast majority of residents and business proprietors are English
speaking, so communication is not a worry.
Calahonda has three main shopping areas. Los
Cipresses, Los Olivios and El Zoco. All are modern and provide most of
the things you are likely to need to buy while on holiday.
At Los Cipresses you will find two banks with
service tills, a DVD / video hire shop (with predominantly English
language films), three supermarkets each with a Tapas / snack bar, two
restaurants and an Ice cream parlour / Italian Cafe. There is also a
laundry, Doctors surgery, dentists, Internet Cafe, Newsagents come
tourist shop come tobacconists.
At Los Olivios, you will find a supermarket, a bank,
a currency exchange bureau, a florists, and a cafe / restaurant /tapas
bar.
At El Zoco you will find a supermarket, a Post
Office, three banks with Service tills, a currency exchange bureau,
clothing shops, a newsagents, a florists, a Tour operator offering
tourist trips, a hairdressers, an amusement arcade, several cafes,
several restaurants and several bars.
There are numerous other small local shops, bars and
restaurants at other convenient locations throughout Calahonda.
Two Emergency Medical Centres provide cover 24 hours
a day. Each has ambulances and
fully trained medical staff.
The main hospital, Hospital Costa del Sol, is only a short drive (approximately 10 minutes)
from Calahonda. There are several 24 hours pharmacies in the area.
A “Tourist train” operates throughout Calahonda most
of the year. This is an inexpensive means of getting around. It is a
"train" of about two to four carriages pulled by a road vehicle designed
to resemble a steam train. It circulates around the main streets of
Calahonda on a half-hourly basis.
Calahonda has two public taxi ranks, one located at
El Zoco shopping precinct and the other is at Los Cipresses.
There is a good, regular bus service going both
North and South of Calahonda along the main Costal road, the A7. Public
transport is cheap.
Calahonda is a modern community with all the
conveniences that you would expect of a quality tourist destination. It
is a quieter and much more family orientated area than nearby Fuengirola
or Torremolinos, which are renowned for being lively and for a very busy
nightlife.
Because Calahonda is on the coast, naturally you
have a large choice of beaches. There is La Luna beach, which is a
smaller more private beach with its own beach hut and shower facilities
or you could visit Puerto Cabopino, which is Calahonda's own Port. The
Port is particularly quaint when lit up at night. The port has several
family restaurants, bars and cafes. To the side of the port you will
find ample parking for the beach. The beach is a long beach with golden
sand. It has a large well-equipped beach bar, showers and toilet
facilities. It has all the water sports that you would hope to find as
well as sun loungers, parasols etc.
Calahonda has three public parks and one garden
centre.
Calahonda has two golf course, one small nine hole
par three golf course it's own driving range, bar and restaurant (La
Siesta Golf Club), the other is a full 18 hole course which again has a
bar, restaurant and grass driving range (Cabopino Golf Club.) In
addition, there are approximately 50 golf courses within easy reach of
Calahonda. They do not call it the Costa del golf for nothing!
Calahonda is easy to get to and has easy access to other local attractions because there is an exit off the AP7 toll
road / motorway at Calahonda. Alternatively, you can take the main
costal road, the A7, to and from Calahonda.
